Fascinated by real estate from the start, Mary Lou Clendenin (RE/MAX First Choice) started her training in college. At Texas Tech she earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, but her actual degree reads: ’Family Management, Housing and Consumer Science with a Real Estate emphasis’. “It was essentially a minor in Real Estate,” explains Mary Lou, who felt an early attraction to the industry. “I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of helping someone through the largest purchase of their life and getting them the best purchase. I also like houses and remodeling. Every aspect of the business suites me.” After graduating and being licensed in 1981, Mary Lou found the world of real estate to be a business of practicality learned through experience. She briefly withdrew from the business for a time to raise two children with her husband and returned to full time selling in 1995, opening her own firm, then selling that firm and relocating to Longview with her husband.

She and her partner Connie Havens moved to RE/MAX in 2006. “Connie and I determined that the firm we were with in Longview wasn’t conducive to teams, which is the direction we wanted to go in,” says Mary Lou. Connie had  previously worked with Mark Minchew of            RE/MAX Austin Associates through the CRS board and liked the way he did his business. When Lana Rogers opened RE/MAX First Choice in Longview, everything fell together. “The RE/MAX system was better for our team. Of course, the RE/MAX name helps too,” she says. “We are very satisfied with our choice.”

Now as the members of the C&D Texas Team, Connie and Mary Lou have been enjoying success at RE/MAX First Choice. “Connie tends to work on the buyers side and I’m involved on the sellers’ side,” she says.  Mary Lou sees education as an ongoing event in her career and the team promotes education with other agents. “It’s great working with well educated realtors in any transaction,” she concludes. “Education is the key to all things in real estate.” Mary Lou is the past President (2006) of the Longview Board of Realtors and currently serves on the Board of Directors.
