Doug and Don Erdy are on a mission. As father and son, this is not first time they have teamed up, but this may be one of their most important jobs yet. RE/MAX Suburban Top Producer Doug Erdy has teamed with his father Don, who is a Marine veteran and the Executive Director of the USO of Greater Houston, to support the USO and increase local awareness of the outstanding work the USO does for our service men and women and their families. For each home listed by Doug and his team, from October 1, 2006 through December 31, 2007, he will donate $100.00 to the USO of Greater Houston when the home sells.
“We hope the idea will catch on and spread to other RE/MAX offices throughout this area and the state,” said Doug. Don has provided a USO sign rider to be displayed on every home in the program. The sign lets the public know “This Agent Supports Our Troops” which is part of the plan to intensify appreciation of the efforts of the USO. An agent may agree to give any amount and this is usually done at closing.
With over 30,000 men and women in uniform from the greater Houston area, including Harris, Galveston, Montgomery, Walker and Fort Bend County, the USO of Greater Houston is working full force to assist our troops with any means possible. A big part of the program is the hospitality center at both Bush Intercontinental and Hobby Airports with a third center planned for Ellington Air Force base.
“At the hospitality centers, troops enjoy a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere where they can read, watch TV, use the computers, send emails and enjoy a snack, all at no cost to them,” said Don. “We think it’s a great way to show our support for the troops.”
For Doug Erdy, expressing his admiration for the military comes naturally. “Growing up, we were all taught to respect the military in my family,” said Doug. “I think supporting the troops with a donation is the least I can do to show my support for our soldiers who are fighting for us”.
