After 25 years in real estate, Steve Hardcastle of RE/MAX Westside Realtors knows how to play the game – and play it well! A perennial top producer, Steve has been in the top 1% of all Realtors in the U.S. since 1989 and the #1 Top Producer at RE/MAX Westside for the last 18 years. The Houston Business Journal lists him as one of the top 25 Realtors in Houston every year.
So how did he get here? Steve began his career with a large real estate company in the West Houston area after a career as a contract analyst for the oil industry. “The company I was working with had very little name recognition, and lacked the competitive edge I wanted,” notes Steve. “But it was an office that operated on a maximum commission model, and I liked that a lot. During my CRS training, I was exposed to some top producing RE/MAX® agents. I decided to try RE/MAX and it was a perfect match. My business doubled the first year I was there.”
A graduate of Sam Houston University with a degree in Business Administration, Steve is a native Texan who has resided in West Houston for over 30 years. During his time with RE/MAX, he earned Hall of Fame status and received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Steve specializes in residential sales for the Energy Corridor of West Houston and Katy. But theses areas are not without their challenges.
“Katy and West Houston have rapidly expanding populations and new construction is everywhere, as the land there is very easy to acquire and build on,” Steve continues. “So there is fierce competition for the resale market.” Steve counters these challenges by finding the best people for his team, each of whom has a sincere interest in customer service. “We put the customers’ needs ahead of the money aspect and do the best job we can for them. We also put lots of money into print and electronic advertising so we can get as much exposure as possible for our listings.”
As a real hometown boy, Steve has also been involved as a committee member with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for the past 20 years and has just achieved Lifetime Committee Member status! As part of the committee, Steve helps raise scholarship money for students who plan to attend Texas universities. The HLS&R scholarship fund gives millions of dollars every year for students around the state.
