RE/MAX of Texas has announce that Roger Brand has been named 'Agent of the Quarter' Roger Brand knows about hard work and the reward it brings. Born in 1937, Roger grew up hard on a north Texas farm, assuming the responsibilities of a grown man as a young boy. The upbringing kept him out of trouble and taught him the value of sweat equity. After he married, he worked with Texas Instruments for nearly 15 years.
“I did not like being told when to work, take a break, eat lunch, and go home,” says Roger of his time there. “I want to be paid based on what I do, not on what someone else thinks I’m worth.” Roger’s first taste of selling real estate ignited a passion for the industry that persists to this day. “Passion in what you do is essential,” he says. “I love the challenge of making the sales and the joy of meeting new people.”
In 1974, Roger became a full time agent, opening his own office with a partner and a loan the he paid back within three months. “I did all the hard work, knocking on doors and prospecting. The partnership did not last, but we became the top office in Garland by the late 70s.” That was when RE/MAX of Texas founder Frank DeCicco began aggressively pursuing Roger, knowing he would fit perfectly in RE/MAX. “I took three trips up to Denver to check things out,” Roger remembers. “When I got back, I told everyone ‘I don’t know about you, but I’m going with RE/MAX’. It was the greatest thing since sliced bread.”
Roger met current office owner Frank Hayward in 1983 when Frank and his father were looking at RE/MAX franchises. “Frank came to me asking about RE/MAX and how I ran my office. I hadn’t considered selling, but at the time I had kids in college. My candle was burning at both ends and interest rates were skyrocketing,” he explains. “I have always felt it was a step up for me to step down and become a RE/MAX Agent. I didn’t have to worry about management and was back to doing what I loved.”
Roger was wooed away from RE/MAX in 1997, joining Ebby Halliday Realtors and then a Keller Williams office. But Roger felt out of place at both companies. Last year, he reconnected with Frank Hayward who told him “You know you belong at RE/MAX. Why don’t you just make the move now?” Roger hesitated until February 2008, rejoining RE/MAX after an 11 year absence. “I feel very comfortable here,” he concludes. “When you are home, you are at a better place. This is home.”
