In a city where different ethnicities make up the colorful fabric of our culture, there are always communities in need of assistance from organizations who help non-English speaking citizens and immigrants achieve their dreams of home ownership. The AAREA is an organization whose mission is to further the Asian American presence at-large in Houston. The AAREA members recently gathered at the organization’s Spring Gala to meet and honor their membership, and RE/MAX® was there.

RE/MAX United Broker/Owner Shawn Guo, a member of the Association’s Board of Directors in 2006, emphasizes how the Association assists the Asian American community in Houston. “We have great leadership under our current President Lauris Tam. Our Association promotes programs like continuing education and guest speakers,” says Shawn. “These programs help educate the community on real estate transactions. RE/MAX makes up a large part of this organization as the largest real estate company in the AAREA.”

The Association’s support is invaluable to the Asian American community in Houston, which makes up 5.8% of the Harris/Fort Bend County population. “Real Estate transactions can be daunting to Asian Americans who are not fluent in English,” continues Shawn, whose staff at RE/MAX United is bilingual and in some cases trilingual. “Because of the language barrier, it is easy for people to take advantage of these people. We assist them in dealing with builders, banks and in any other arena where they find themselves unable to negotiate.”

RE/MAX United holds these principals of community aid and sponsorship very close; several of the office’s agents are current AAREA board members. “Running your business in a manner that benefits the community is the RE/MAX way,” finishes Shawn. “We are glad to be a part of it.”
