RE/MAX of Texas has named Phyllis Young of RE/MAX Texas Hertiage as an Agent of the Quarter for the final quarter of 2007. Veteran Realtor Phyllis Young of RE/MAX Texas Heritage enjoys a challenge. Active in the real estate industry for over 25 years, she had adopted a firm methodology for achieving sustainable success.
Phyllis developed a passion for real estate in 1980, when she changed careers from teaching home economics. “I wanted to spend more time with my children and my mother was a Realtor, so I thought it might be a good fit for me,” says Phyllis. “I attained my Broker’s License in 1983 and went into real estate appraising for about seven years in 1986. But I ended up coming back to selling real estate.”
In 1998, Phyllis made the jump to RE/MAX, citing a desire to be her own boss. “I didn’t like the ‘sweat shop’ mentality of other brokerages I had worked with,” she explains. “I decided that if I wanted to be associated with a franchise, it should the one I perceived to be the best.” Now stretching toward 30 years in the business, Phyllis maintains that staying involved and giving back to your industry is as important as having passion for it.
“You must love what you do and have a sense of obligation toward helping your industry,” Phyllis states. “Have passion for real estate, for service, and for life” is her motto. As a highly involved member of the Bryan-College Station Regional Association of Realtors and TAR, she has certainly practiced what she preaches. She has chaired numerous committees and has acted as a TAR and TREPAC Trustee, as well as the 2006 President of her local board of Realtors, in addition to many other positions with these organizations. In 2007 Bryan-College Station Regional Association of Realtors awarded her the ‘Realtor of the Year” Award.
Outside the office, Phyllis maintains a love of teaching and learning. A graduate of Sam Houston University, she holds a degree in home economics and psychology. She has taught a course in real estate appraising at Blinn Junior College in Bryan for the last three years. This year, she plans to take time off from teaching to attain her CRS. Aside from furthering her competency and professionalism in 2008, Phyllis excitedly awaits the birth of a grandchild in May
