Originally from Amarillo, RE/MAX Highplains Realty Sales Associates Mike Craven has been licensed for the past three years. Before entering a career in real estate, Mike worked many years for Jack B. Kelly INC, a transporter of hazardous material. This work took Mike away from home for a majority of the time and motivated him to seek more flexible employment.

“My wife Toni and I always enjoyed real estate,” says Mike, who has both built and flipped houses over the last ten years. “When I decided to get involved in the industry, I did a little research and discovered the high market share that RE/MAX® had nationally. I felt my chances for success in real estate would be double if I became a RE/MAX Agent.”

RE/MAX Highplains opened in early 2007 in a city that is experiencing robust growth. This has helped Mike’s career with RE/MAX to become a phenomenal success in a short time. “There are lots of folks retiring to Amarillo from the east and west coast of the United States because the cost of living is so much better here,” Mike explains. “Many of the big corporations out here are expanding and that’s bringing in new jobs.”

Joining Mike in this success is his wife of 34 years, Toni Craven, who was newly licensed in May. “I love working with Toni. She backs me up and supports me in critical ways,” says Mike. For Mike, this kind of support from his wife and office is important, as he has been fighting Cancer for the past 3 years. Despite his illness, Mike has continued to have stellar production levels at RE/MAX Highplains Realty.

“[Owners] Angie Thornton and Winona Colson are wonderful to work with,” says Mike. “The atmosphere at RE/MAX Highplains Realty is more like a family than a work place. They are always concerned for my health and are there with prayers and well wishes.”

In the face of Cancer, Mike continues to live fully and enjoys helping others to do the same. Blessed with a child-like enthusiasm, Mike readily takes part in his community through church, athletic events and charities like the Komen Race for the Cure. But it is in seeing first-time homeowners close on their new home that he finds particular delight. “I get as excited as they do and that kind of experience makes this profession a joy.”
