Punching a clock is not for everyone. After 26 years in the administrative field, RE/MAX Goldstar Associate Luann McCluskey found herself burned out and looking for a change. “The Lord opened the door to real estate,” she says. “I became licensed in 1999 and got started right away.” This month marks her 9th anniversary in real estate, and her one year anniversary with RE/MAX Goldstar in Brownwood.
“I wanted a professional environment and RE/MAX is well-known in that capacity,” says Luann. “[Broker/Owner] Stan Crawford is a man with integrity and good Christian ethics. I also enjoy working with the other RE/MAX agents.”
Since the beginning, real estate has clicked with her lifestyle, one that is often kept busy with church and family. “The flexibility in real estate allows me time with my family, but I also stay involved by going to Board of Realtor luncheons and the local Chamber of Commerce luncheons.” She also stays up-to-date with education and training, acquiring her GRI designation in 2005 and soon to be completing the requirements for her Broker’s license.
A native of Brownwood, Luann is a well-known resident who enjoys showing off her hometown to prospective buyers. “People enjoy the small, hometown feel of Brownwood and many of our new residents are migrating or retiring from life in the Metroplex , and even California and Florida,” she says. “I particularly enjoy showing lake property, since I spent a lot of time as a teenager swimming/skiing at Lake Brownwood. Farm and Ranch is also a lot of fun since I grew up on my grandparents' farm and spent time hunting and horseback riding. I can put my boots on and climb the fences with the best of them!”
For agents just starting out, Luann advises patience, patience . . . and then more patience! “Real estate isn’t all fun and games, it’s a serious business and RE/MAX is for the serious agent,” she advises. “Of course, there needs to be balance....take time to laugh with your coworkers to combat the stressful times. Always be ethical and do the right thing even if the other person doesn't. When times get hard - and they will - never give up and have realistic expectations. You work with all different kinds of people in this job and it can be stressful, but so very rewarding. Remember, it's never a ‘done deal’ until you leave the closing table with your commission check!”
In her own success, Luann gives all the credit to God and honors Him in her home and business. She and her husband Joe love to play golf in their spare time. When not working, she loves spending time with her children and "most especially" her grandbaby Benson.
