As a resident of historic Terrell for the past twenty years, Carolyn Fairley has developed a passion for her community that has seeped into her job. But her passion for real estate started long before her relocation to Terrell from Dallas. She started out in property management, already leasing apartments by the time she was 17. Making this her profession, Carolyn joined Walden Property Management and worked her way up to Regional Vice President and getting her real estate license along the way.
“Then I decided to have a baby,” Carolyn relates. “I stayed home with my child for five years and loved it. Of course, the corporate world isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be and when I went back into the work force, I went for a change.”
That change came from RE/MAX Landmark Broker/Co-Owner Terry Roberts, who had shown Carolyn some houses, and joined RE/MAX from the get-go. “RE/MAX just has excellent training, professionalism and support,” she says. “This is good for me since I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist and I strive to give the best service I can to my clients.” Carolyn quickly found real estate less stressful than property management, but had to acclimate to owning her own business and having to invest in it.
Luckily, Carolyn has found a niche in Terrell real estate that matches her passion: historic homes. As a depot town founded in the 1870’s, Terrell is home to a number of historic homes and a decent demand for them. “Dallas residents are increasingly interested in historic houses,” says Carolyn, who has sold houses upwards of century old. “Of course, there is a little more involved in selling this kind of real estate. Clients are buying history along with a place to live. You have to research the houses history through the town records and through neighborhood residents. Also, you have to know about antique construction and building and how to upgrade and preserve these buildings.”
Carolyn herself lives in a 100-year old home and has a selling territory that surrounds her own neighborhood. She is passionate about anything that preserves and improves Terrell and as such, is involved in Adopt-A-Block and the Terrell Building and Standards Commission dedicated to city cleanup.
