“She is a true angel in my eyes,” says Margie Amon, owner of RE/MAX Preferred Properties in Decatur of Realtor Marilyn Read. A member of the RE/MAX 100% club and due to celebrate her ten year anniversary as a real estate agent in April 2007, Marilyn’s skills and focus were truly put to the test when illness forced Margie off her feet for seven months. During that time, Marilyn took charge of her office and still remained a consistent producer.

“I was able to hold things together and continue to produce because of the great support of both my family at home and my family at the office,” says Marilyn of her times as both agent and office manager.

Marilyn started in real estate after a 20-year career as a Title Analyst for the energy industry. “I was a victim of downsizing, but it was really a blessing in disguise,” adds Marilyn, who holds a BBA in Real Estate from the University of North Texas. I was now free to do what I had actually gone to school for.”

The decision has been a good one for Marilyn, who joined Margie Amon’s business in 1997. “Margie has always been known for her competency. I wanted to learn from the best, so I went right to her,” continues Marilyn. “When Margie asked me about switching over to RE/MAX® in 1998, I was very excited. The buzz around RE/MAX was always so big. I was sure it was the place to be.”

Marilyn is keeping her eye on the future as well. She has introduced her daughter-in-law Tiffany to the business and continues to accumulate new business. “When I first started, I never imagined the referrals and repeat business that I would have,” she adds. “But now I look at these last ten years and I realize I’ve made it.”
